Welcome, in Breton! Come and spend a few days near the beautiful countyside and stunning beaches of the Finistere! You may have already have stayed at my bed and breakfast in Le Mée near the Loire châteaux (Loire Bed and Breakfast). I moved to the Finistere in October 2007 to a small town house in the suburbs of Quimper, the county town, and now have one ensuite double bed and breakfast room.
I am situated minutes away from country lanes, ancient chapels and beautiful woodland, and about a quarter of an hour from the coast. The coastline is very varied: you can choose from sheltered coves, wild Atlantic surfing beaches, long stretches of sand for sunbathing (yes, it is often sunny in Brittany), walking or kite surfing, and little fishing ports with lovely seafood restaurants. You can take the boat to nearby islands or go off fishing for the day.
The town of Quimper is full of architectural wonders, starting with St Corentin Cathedral which has just been restored. It is on the river Odet which runs down to the sea, and is home to Quimper porcelain. It is a lively, cultural town, with lots of good restaurants. My house is on the very outskirts but is nevertheless only about five minutes from the town centre (there is a bus if you don’t want to take the car).
The bed and breakfast room has an independent entrance from the front courtyard where you can park. It can be made up as a double (160cm) or as twins (no cot or extra beds available I’m afraid). The house is built on a hillside, so there are steps everywhere (not very disabled friendly). Three steps down take you into the ensuite shower room, with a jet shower cabin, single wash basin, and the washing and drying machines, which you are welcome to use. Through another door, you will find the loo, which is private to your room but which is just off a corner of the hallway (I am the only other occupant of the house, and I have separate facilities).
Breakfast is taken in the kitchen/dining room which gives on to the veranda and terrace. Several steps down from there is a long sloping garden, bordered by lots of mature trees; quite countrified for town.
I no longer do dinner since there are so many restaurants around.
A single night’s stay for two people including breakfast will come to €60.
Two consecutive nights will be €55 per night.
And three nights or more, €45 per night.
There is so much to see and do, you could stay a week, or even a fortnight, and not exhaust the possibilities!
Take a look at my other website: www.TheRealFrenchCookeryClass.com. I run private cookery classes, in English or in French, which last two full days, and include 4 nights’ B&B.
